Our Mission
GOODProjects supports Dreamers like Carza Posey start their own clothing brand at 13 years old to provide opportunities for them and their family.
Their line, Respect Brand, “focuses on the community to help decrease violence by spreading positive vibes promoting positive self-image through fashion.” - Carza
the GOODGuys accepted the challenge from 2021 GOODGala Honoree, Darren Walker. He challenged the guys to focus their impact to create the generational change they sought after when GOODProjects was first started. That culminated in the development of the GOODZone Initiative. A hyper-focused approach to community develop where they adopted the census track consisting of the largest density of housing projects in Washington, D.C.
The plan is simple:
1) Support 500 Families transition out of poverty by 2030;
2) Prove the model for the rest of the world
3) End Poverty
through GOODCamp’s summer feeding program for Dreamers living in the GOODZone age 7 - 13.
in GOODCamps every year since 2016 and whose families throughout 2020 will be connected to a Household Success Manager responsible for their pathway out of poverty.
since the first GOODGala in 2018 to provide child care and other support services to parents living in the GOODZone during the summer time.
Our Partners
Families enrolled in Family Success Planning are able to share in the benefits provided by our dozens of community partners like Period.org that helped us give out 7,000 period products in 2019 and Internet Essentials from Comcast that brings our residents affordable high-speed Internet.
RISE
2019 was a year of great awakening for the GOODProjects team. It was no easy decision to transition away from two of our three foundational programs - The Credible Messenger Initiative and Clean Team. Both were driving forces in GOODProjects development the past three years and greatly affects our ability to have impact on Dreamers.
We felt it was important to stand by our commitment to focus GOODProjects’ talent, time, and resources on the families living in the GOODZone. As outlined in the 2018 - 2022 Strategic Plan we developed with the support of the Ford Foundation, the focus of 2019 was building relationships with families, creating valuable relationships/partnerships with stakeholders, and opening a physical hub in the GOODZone. With the support the community, we accomplished all three.
Now our 2020 vision is clear. We have identified a need to raise $3m to support our teams efforts to expand programming for our Dreamers, begin Family Success Planning for parents, and open a new GOODCenter in Washington, D.C.
Since the first GOODCamp at Anacostia High School in 2016, we have kept hundreds of Dreamers off the streets and out of harms way during the summer when gun violence spikes in the GOODZone. Kids ages 7-13 attend GOODCamps where they are exposed to a rigorous academic environment, fed 3x a day, and given the space to have fun while working through the traumas they have experienced at such young ages. The GOODLearning Hub is a socially distant learning space for students who live in the GOODZone. Students who attend the GOODProjects GOODLearning Hub receive laptops, internet access, and support from educational professionals and former teachers throughout their entire virtual school day. All students who attend GOODProjects Learning Hubs receive breakfast and lunch every day. Throughout the school day during students break periods, students participate in physical and educational activities to promote socialization and healthy living. The GOODLearning Hub allows for parents to get their day back. Parents who are working do not have to take off or juggle working from home while supporting their child at school. And parents who want to get better jobs or become employed can focus their full attention to that with the help of the Family Success Planning team at GOODProjects.
In 2021, 100 parents of our Dreamers will be admitted into the first cohort for Family Success Planning through your support. Those selected to participate in the program will be paired with a team of Family Success Managers who will guide them and their children on their pathway to self-sufficiency, out of poverty. If there’s one thing we know we’re GOOD at is bringing people together in our community. In 2020, we are hosting a community event every month for volunteers to come out and get to know our Dreamers and their families. Check out this years community calendar to sign up and find ways to get involved in the GOODZone.

High school rivals turned teammates turned co-creators of GOODprojects, The GOODGuys would make it their life’s work to create the universal model to break the horrible cycles of poverty beginning with 500 families in the largest housing project in Washington, D.C.
